Saudi-led bomb hits Sanaa Intl airport every two weeks in two years :Norwegian Council, CARE
SANAA, Aug. 9 (YPA) – The Norwegian Refugee Council and CARE International said every two weeks a Saudi-led bomb have been hiting Sana International airport, during the two years since it was closed because of the coalition war and its all-out imposed against Yemen.
A joint statement issued by the council and the organization in coincidence with the two years since the closure of Sanaa International Airport, that the bombs that fell on the main airport in Yemen is greater than the number of passengers who arrived to it.
The statement said that Sanaa airport has become a site of repeated air strikes, noting that 56 air strikes of the Saudi-led coalition forces have been dropped on the airport building over the past two years, according to Yemeni data, damaging sensitive infrastructure and threatened Safety of surrounding communities.
The statement said restrictions on Yemen’s airspace by the Saudi-led coalition led to the official closure of Sanaa International Airport for commercial flights on August 9, 2016, and commercial air traffic was no longer allowed to enter the airport, including the transfer of Yemenis who needed Life-saving medical services abroad.
Three years of war have weakened Yemen’s already fragile health system, with less than half of the health facilities operating, while 16 million Yemenis now need humanitarian assistance for basic health care.
The statement stressed that inadequate water infrastructure and high malnutrition have made people vulnerable to disease, including a third wave of cholera.
It pointed to the death of ten thousand Yemenis by August 2017 because of health conditions that need medical treatment abroad, according to the Ministry of Health in Sana.
