Qassem: Aggression aims to colonize the region; resistance will continue to confront Israeli occupation
BEIRUT, Aug. 04 (YPA) – Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem stated on Tuesday that the US-Israeli aggression against Lebanon, Gaza, Iran, Iraq, and Yemen aims to extinguish resistance and colonize the region.
He emphasized that “Israel” will not achieve field gains in the presence of resistance, despite securing political benefits.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Arbaeen in Baalbek, Qassem noted that the resistance’s steadfastness and popular support foiled the objectives of the September 2024 aggression. He pointed out that the US-Iranian memorandum of understanding reduced the level of aggression, as Iran conditioned an end to the aggression and Israeli occupation withdrawal, prioritizing Lebanon in its first clause. He affirmed that this memorandum is the pathway to achieving total withdrawal.
Qassem criticized direct negotiations and Lebanon’s political leadership, calling on officials to cease uncompensated concessions and stop dialogue with “Israel” amid the systematic destruction of southern villages. He urged leaders instead to engage in dialogue with the resistance, address domestic issues, and prioritize national sovereignty.
Concluding his address, Qassem highlighted internal unity and the alliance between Hezbollah and the Amal Movement as an “impenetrable barrier.” He called on the state to fulfill its responsibilities regarding shelter and reconstruction, reaffirming that resistance will continue as long as the occupation persists.
