Lebanon, “Israel” open 7th round of direct talks in Rome amid field Tensions

ROME, Aug. 04 (YPA) – Direct negotiations between Lebanon and “Israel” entered their seventh round on Tuesday in the Italian capital, Rome, running from Aug. 4 to 6.

This marks the second round hosted on Italian soil and the first since operational testing of so-called “pilot zones” began in southern Lebanon.

Delegations arrived in Rome amid heightened ground tensions as Israeli military actions overshadowed the diplomatic track. In the days preceding the round, Israeli occupation forces conducted controlled demolitions in the towns of Deir Siriane, Haddatha, and Taybeh, and set fire to residences in Beit Yahoun, alongside shelling near the Ali al-Taher heights.

Following a limited Israeli occupation withdrawal from the outskirts of Zawtar al-Gharbiyya and the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces in the area, discussions are shifting to technical and implementation details. Negotiators will focus on mapping, defining Israeli withdrawal zones, handover procedures, verification mechanisms for Lebanese army deployment, and timelines for subsequent phases.

Lebanon enters the seventh round adhering to its demand for a complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from its territory.
