Shabwa tribes threaten to shut down oil fields, demand 50% of revenues

SHABWA, July 28 (YPA) – The Shabwa Tribes Alliance has strongly rejected the decision to resume oil exports from Shabwa province through Al-Nashima port in Yemen’s southeastern Shabwa Governorate.

In a statement, the alliance said Shabwa’s people are being deprived of their rightful share of the province’s resource revenues. It said that Shabwa is suffering from dire conditions and successive crises across various sectors.

The statement blamed the suffering of Shabwa’s people on deliberate neglect and marginalization by the Presidential Leadership Council and the Saudi-backed government.

The alliance said 50% of Shabwa’s resource revenues should be allocated to the province and its people. It also called for the creation of the “Petro Shabwa” company and the construction of an oil refinery inside the province.

The statement stressed the need for a decision to resume operations at the historic Qena port and reduce fuel prices for Shabwa residents, in line with the pricing system in Marib.

The tribes alliance warned that it would take all legal measures and use what it called the legitimate right of Shabwa’s people to halt the transfer of resources abroad until their demands are fully addressed.

It also warned the Presidential Leadership Council and the Saudi-backed government against ignoring these demands, saying such a move would lead to clear steps to reclaim rights by force with the participation of all segments of society.

The alliance called on Shabwa’s tribes to raise their readiness if authorities continue to ignore their demands, saying it would take escalatory measures and mobilize armed tribal forces to prevent oil tankers from leaving the facilities of operating companies.
