ADEN, July 16 (YPA) – The “dissolved” UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) issued a call on Wednesday for its supporters to stage widespread protests on Thursday across Aden and several major southern cities, demanding an end to what it termed “Saudi tutelage” and protesting the collapse of public services and deteriorating living conditions.
Joint statements issued by the STC branches in the governorates of Aden, Abyan, Lahj, Dhalea, and Shabwa emphasized a unified popular stance rejecting what they described as “collective punishment policies and a war of services.”
The statements condemned the ongoing deprivation of basic rights, including electricity, water, decent living standards, and the regular payment of public salaries.
According to the statements, the scheduled protests aim to deliver a decisive public message rejecting all forms of external intervention or Saudi tutelage, as well as any political projects targeting the southern cause.
The STC declared its outright rejection of Saudi-backed initiatives in the south, vowing to confront attempts to fracture southern unity through Riyadh-funded councils and entities designed to weaken the traditional frameworks of the southern movement.
Furthermore, the regional statements demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all activists and political detainees detained arbitrarily by Saudi-backed authorities due to their political stances.
The STC concluded by asserting that measures of suppression and silencing would not deter the public from continuing open-ended, peaceful escalation across Aden and other southern governorates until their demands are met.
