DHAMAR, July 13 (YPA) – The Seismological and Volcanological Observatory Center in Dhamar governorate recorded three consecutive earthquakes on Monday which hit areas within the governorates of Sanaa and Lahj.
According to the center, its stations detected the sequential tremors starting at 03:02 AM with a minor local quake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale, centered in northeastern Lahj.
Within the hour, at 03:56 AM, a second tremor measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale struck areas southeast of the capital, Sanaa.
The center reported that the third earthquake was the strongest, registering a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale. It occurred at 05:16 AM in northeastern Lahj at a shallow depth of 3 kilometers.
These seismic events follow a total of 11 earthquakes recorded in Lahj since the beginning of July. Experts attribute this activity to ongoing tectonic movements along the southern edge of the Arabian Plate, adjacent to the structural system of the Gulf of Aden belt.
