ADEN, July 05 (YPA) – Living and service conditions continue to deteriorate across the districts of Aden, placing a heavy burden on residents amid what is described as a lack of effective solutions from the Saudi-backed government and the Presidential Leadership Council.
In Khor Maksar district, residents expressed frustration after sewage overflow returned to the Diplomatic Quarter just one day after local authorities announced emergency drainage and maintenance work in the area.
Residents of Al-Diplomacy neighborhood expressed deep frustration over the recurrence of chronic sewage issues, which resurfaced only hours after maintenance work was reportedly completed.
In various interviews, locals noted that the swift return of the problem highlights a failure to address the root causes, noting that recent interventions were merely temporary “band-aid” solutions.
They called for permanent solutions to the sanitation network, alongside stricter oversight of contractors and relevant authorities to prevent the re-emergence of stagnant water pools that now pose a significant threat to public health.
Conditions in the Crater district remain very poor. In the Al-Sakaniyah area of Al-Midan, sewage has been overflowing for several days. Streets are covered with wastewater, making it difficult for residents to walk or drive.
Residents say they are surprised that the problem persists despite its close proximity to government offices. They add that they have submitted complaints for three days, but no action has been taken so far.
In the Al-Tayareen neighborhood of Sheikh Othman, residents have been without water for more than a month.
They said the situation has worsened due to alleged tampering with water valves. As a result, families are forced to buy expensive water from tankers, adding to their financial burden.
They called on the water company to inspect the network, identify those responsible, and restore the water supply as soon as possible.
In a related context, and in rejection of what they describe as random projects that threaten public safety, residents of Al-Tawahi district in the port area continued their peaceful protests for a third consecutive day.
Residents called on the coalition government and local authorities in the governorate to respond quickly to their legitimate demands.
They urged that the project be relocated to industrial areas or other sites far from residential neighborhoods to ensure the safety of people and their property, and to prevent potential disasters in the future.
