ADEN, June 12 (YPA) – Several people were killed and injured on Thursday evening in an armed attack targeting the residence of Abdulrahman Sheikh, the Saudi-appointed governor of Aden, according to local sources.
Sources said that an armed assailant opened fire on soldiers assigned to guard the governor’s residence, killing the soldier immediately.
The soldier as identified as Ahmed Al-Batani.
The attack also claimed the lives of two Syrian civilians—a husband and wife—who were reportedly passing through the area at the time. Several members of the security were injured .
The sources added that the gunman fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The identity of the perpetrator remains unknown, although some accusations have been directed at the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC). No official confirmation of responsibility has been issued.
The incident comes amid growing public unrest in Aden, where residents have staged widespread protests over the deterioration of basic public services and prolonged power outages. The electricity cuts have forced many residents to spend nights outdoors to escape the intense summer heat.
