US organizations urge Congress to pressure occupation to stop violations in West Bank

WASHINGTON, June 10 (YPA) – American activists and human rights organizations have launched a campaign to pressure Congress to take practical steps to confront the escalating violations of the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, amid increasing killings, arrests, and settlement expansion.

Media sources reported that the campaign is based on the killing of the 7-month-old Palestinian infant, Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, in Hebron, an incident that sparked widespread anger among human rights organizations and supporters of Palestinian rights, who see it as a reflection of the escalating violence against Palestinians.

The campaign organizers called on members of the House of Representatives and the Senate to take a tougher stance against settler activity and violence, and to work to protect Palestinians, stressing that the continuation of the situation threatens the chances for peace and increases the suffering of the population.

The campaign also called on Congress to reject bills that enhance US-Israeli military cooperation, impose sanctions on settlers involved in violence, and condemn colonial expansion in the West Bank.
