TEHRAN, June 02 (YPA) – Iranian media outlets affirmed on Tuesday that exchanges of messages between Tehran and Washington regarding a proposed memorandum of understanding have been temporarily suspended amid escalating tensions in Lebanon and recent Iranian warnings directed at Israeli occupation.
According to an informed source cited by the Iranian news agency Fars, there is currently no exchange of messages between the two sides, with communications having been paused for at least several days. The source said Tehran’s most recent message to Washington focused on developments in Lebanon and drew significant international attention.
A separate source quoted by Iran’s Mehr News Agency said discussions are still ongoing in Tehran over the draft of a potential final memorandum of understanding with the United States, adding that no official response has yet been delivered.
The source noted that Iran’s cautious approach reflects its concerns over previous U.S. commitments, stressing that Tehran is carefully reviewing the proposal before taking further steps.
On the Lebanese file, Iranian officials continue to insist that any broader understanding with Washington must include a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon, particularly following recent Israeli threats directed at Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said Lebanon must be included in any final agreement, describing it as an integral part of a ceasefire framework.
The Iranian parliament also called for a strong response to continued Israeli aggression on Lebanon and emphasized support for resistance forces.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf discussed efforts to secure a halt to Israeli aggression in Lebanon during a phone call with Nabih Berri.
Ghalibaf stated that if a broader agreement is reached between Iran and the United States, it would include ending attacks across multiple fronts, particularly in Lebanon, adding that Tehran is actively pursuing efforts to stop further military escalation.
