Baghaei: Negotiations focus on ending war, no current discussion on nuclear file details
TEHRAN, May 25 (YPA) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, confirmed that the ongoing negotiations in Pakistan is focusing on ending the war on all fronts and includes a clause to halt the aggression on Lebanon, without delving into the details of the nuclear file at this stage.
He explained that while understandings have been reached on several issues, this does not mean an agreement is imminent, noting the constructive roles played by China and Qatar in this path.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei stated that its management is the purview of the littoral states, adding that Iran is developing a protocol to guarantee safe passage in exchange for a financial fee, in coordination with other countries.
Baghaei stressed that Iran’s strength is the ultimate guarantee for any agreement, emphasizing that there are no guarantees for Washington’s commitment to its pledges.
He asserted that Tehran will respond to any hostile action at the time and in the manner it deems appropriate, considering that investing in missiles and drones is what enabled it to confront enemies.
Furthermore, Baghaei criticized the positions of the European Union, and noted in another context FIFA’s responsibility in securing the Iranian national team’s participation in the World Cup.
