Tehran submits modified 14-point proposal to Washington to end war, deep disagreements persist

TEHRAN, May 18 (YPA) – Iran’s Tasnim News Agency revealed on Monday that Tehran has delivered a revised 14-point proposal to the Pakistani mediator for transmission to the United States.

This comes in response to a recent US counter-proposal that offered to suspend oil sanctions and grant temporary waivers during the negotiation period.

However, the agency quoted a source close to the Iranian negotiating team confirming that core disagreements remain unresolved due to what he described as “excessive US demands and lack of realism.”

According to the source, the main sticking points include:

  • Financial Assets & Reparations: Tehran firmly demands the definitive release of its frozen funds—rejecting paper promises—alongside compensation for US military aggression. The source noted that the American proposal to establish a “development and reconstruction fund” falls far short of Iran’s expectations.
  • The Nuclear File: Iran strictly rejects Washington’s attempts to link ending the war with new nuclear commitments, reiterating that its program is entirely peaceful and that US demands are merely “political pretexts.”

The source concluded by emphasizing that the new Iranian draft focuses on ending the war and implementing confidence-building measures, without compromising on Tehran’s principled stance to safeguard the rights of its people.
