Protests held in Syria to demand release of prisoners, end to abuses in prisons

AL-DARBASIYAH, May 13 (YPA) – The city of Al-Darbasiyah in northeastern Syria witnessed a popular demonstration demanding the release of prisoners held by the Transitional Government forces, amid anger over the continued arrests and violations inside prisons.

Dozens of residents and members of civil institutions and local councils participated, raising slogans demanding the immediate release and an end to torture and violations against detainees.

The participants emphasized that the continued detention exacerbates the suffering of families and increases tension, calling for urgent action to address the humanitarian issue and end the suffering of the detainees.

The demonstration is part of ongoing protests in northern and eastern Syria demanding the release of prisoners and the acceleration of the implementation of agreements related to the detainees’ file, along with calls to end violations and ensure respect for rights.
