SANAA, May 10 (YPA) – Yemen is expected to experience a wave of hot weather in the coming days, accompanied by a temporary decline in rainfall and increased wind activity that could trigger dust storms, according to the latest weather and astronomical forecasts.
Yemeni astronomer Adnan Al-Shawafi said on Sunday that temperatures are forecast to rise noticeably across much of the country between May 10 and 15, 2026, amid reduced rainfall and active northeastern winds carrying dust.
In forecasts published on social media, Al-Shawafi stated that inland desert regions, nearby areas, coastal plains, and Yemen’s coastline are expected to be the most affected by the heat wave.
He urged residents, particularly those in exposed areas, to take necessary precautions against extreme temperatures.
Al-Shawafi added that rainfall is expected to decrease significantly until midweek, with only limited chances of scattered showers of varying intensity. However, precipitation could gradually increase again during the second half of the week, particularly over parts of southwestern Yemen.
He also warned that northeastern winds may lead to varying levels of dust and sand spread across several governorates, potentially reducing visibility, especially in desert and open areas. He advised citizens to follow official weather updates and forecasts.
Earlier on Sunday, Yemen Meteorological and Early Warning Center warned residents in desert regions and coastal plains about the hot weather conditions, while also cautioning against the dangers of flash floods in valleys and waterways during and after rainfall.
The center forecast partly cloudy weather over the next 24 hours, with a possibility of scattered rain and occasional thunderstorms over mountainous areas, particularly in the governorates of Hajjah, Al Mahwit, western Sana’a, Dhamar, Raymah, Ibb, and Taiz during the afternoon and evening hours.
Coastal regions are expected to see clear to partly cloudy conditions, with chances of scattered rainfall over parts of the Tihama Plain, nearby inland areas, and parts of the Socotra Archipelago. Winds are forecast to remain light to moderate.
According to the center, desert areas will experience generally hot and dry weather, with maximum temperatures ranging between 37 and 42 degrees Celsius, accompanied by moderate winds that may at times stir up dust and sand.
