Hebrew media: Talks between Hamas and mediators have reached deadlock

GAZA, May 04 (YPA) –Hebrew media reported that ongoing negotiations between Hamas and mediators are facing a deepening crisis due to disagreements, leading to a stall in talks on moving to the second phase, amid Israeli threats to resume military operations in the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s public broadcaster KAN, citing Palestinian sources, reported that discussions between Nikolay Mladenov, Director-General of the so-called “Board of Peace” for Gaza, and a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya have reached a deadlock.

The report said the Israeli side insists on moving to the second phase of the understandings before fully implementing all provisions of the first phase.

The sources added that Hamas is demanding that the issue of weapons be addressed within a comprehensive national framework, in a way that ensures the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation continues to reject withdrawing to what is known as the “Yellow Line,” a position it reportedly conveyed to Mladenov last week—something Hamas views as a breach of the understandings and a deviation from the terms of the first phase.

Hamas has also objected to raising the issue of disarmament before the start of reconstruction in Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces.

The group confirmed to mediators that it refuses to move to any new phase unless Israeli entity  fully and comprehensively implements all provisions of the first phase.
