Sanaa: Penal Appeals Division continues trial of British espionage network; reserves “Okasha” case for sentencing
SANAA, May 03 (YPA) – The Specialized Penal Appeals Division in the capital, Sanaa, held its second session on Sunday to try the first group accused of collaborating with British intelligence, presided over by Judge Abdullah Al-Najjar.
The court granted the defendants an opportunity to submit their appeal briefs in a subsequent session. The group faces charges of collaborating with Saudi and British intelligence (2021–2025) and collecting sensitive information in exchange for money and gold bullion.
The primary court had previously sentenced eight members to death and the ninth to 15 years in prison.
Separately, the division reserved the case of a terrorist gang linked to Al-Qaeda for final judgment in an upcoming session.
The death penalty was imposed on the gang leader, Naji Mohammed Okasha (an Egyptian national), and three others—Majed Farhan, Shamsan Nasr, and Badr Saleh—for convictions related to murder, robbery, and kidnapping.
Imprisonment terms ranging from 10 to 15 years were imposed on three additional members of the group.
