Popular protests erupt at RAF Fairford over UK involvement in US-Israeli aggression on Iran

LONDON, April 26 (YPA) – A large-scale protest was held near RAF Fairford, where hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the airbase hosting U.S. strategic bombers used in military operations targeting Iran.

The demonstration, organized by Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, underscored rising public concern over the United Kingdom’s involvement in the conflict, amid fears that British military installations could become direct targets.

Almost 200 participants marched from Fairford High Street to the base perimeter, carrying banners and images depicting civilian casualties from strikes in Iran and Lebanon, in a display aimed at highlighting the human cost of the conflict.

In response, the UK Ministry of Defence stated that U.S. use of British bases is confined to “restricted defensive operations,” noting that all requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable legal frameworks.

The protest coincided with heightened operational activity at the base since the escalation of military actions in February, reinforcing its symbolic role in the strategic partnership between London and Washington.

The protesters also urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to prevent U.S. President Donald Trump from utilizing UK bases, arguing that such involvement risks entangling Britain in a conflict that does not align with its national interests.

Local residents, meanwhile, voiced frustration over persistent aircraft noise, which they said has at times caused structural vibrations in homes, adding a domestic dimension to the broader geopolitical tensions.
