Yemen Scholars Association denounces Al-Azhar Sheikh’s statement

SANAA, Oct. 27 (YPA) – The Yemen Scholars Association has condemned a statement by Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam concerning attacks on Islamic holy sites, stressing it is making false allegations against the Yemeni people and urging its withdrawal.

In a statement, the association said that Al-Azhar should instead call on Saudi Arabia to halt its military operations and blockade of Yemen.

It questioned the absence of condemnation of civilian casualties and attacks on civilian infrastructure in Yemen, calling for accountability.

The association also stated that Saudi Arabia is using Islamic holy sites to justify its actions and draw Muslim countries and scholars into the conflict. It described the war on Yemen as part of a broader US-Israeli project.

The association affirmed that Yemen’s people and leadership remain open to Islamic initiatives to resolve disputes, provided they promote justice and serve the interests of the Muslim world rather than US and Israeli interests.
