Tehran warns Washington: Mistakes could close waterways in region

TEHRAN, April 20 (YPA) – Iranian officials issued strong warnings to enemies on Sunday, threatening to bring new waterways into the battle line if any mistake is made.

In this regard, former Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati confirmed on Sunday that the era of imposing security from across the oceans has ended.

Velayati stated in posts on his page via the X platform that the security of the Straits of Hormuz and Malacca is no longer guaranteed except thanks to “the power of Iran and its strategic partners.”

He added that “the security of Bab al-Mandab is now also in the hands of Ansarallah,” warning that “any evil act will be met with a chain response.”

Earlier on Sunday, Iranian President’s Public Relations Assistant, Mehdi Tabatabaei, warned that if the enemies repeat the mistakes and crimes that led to the emergence of a new system in the Strait of Hormuz, it will lead to the imposition of “new systems” on other waterways.

Tabatabai continued, in a post on the “X” platform, saying: “Different countries are worried and dissatisfied with this situation?! They should address the matter before it happens.”

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf had previously asserted that “the Strait of Hormuz is under the control of the Islamic Republic.”

He indicated that Iran had dealt firmly with American attempts to remove the mines, considering the American move a violation of the ceasefire.

Mahmoud Nabavian, the deputy head of the National Security Committee in the Iranian parliament, pointed out that US President Donald Trump’s naval blockade of Iran would automatically lead to the closure of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, noting that the closure of the latter does not require direct intervention from Iran or Yemen, but is a natural consequence of any escalation that affects the security of the region.

This comes after the public relations department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced yesterday (Saturday) the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until the blockade on Iranian ports is lifted, stressing that this is a result of the violation of the ceasefire terms and the failure to lift the US naval blockade imposed by President Donald Trump on Iranian ships and ports.
