SANAA, March 26 (YPA) – Yemen’s National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning has forecast thunderstorms and strong winds across several provinces over the next 24 hours.
In its latest bulletin, the center said thunderstorms of varying intensity—sometimes accompanied by hail—are expected in Saada, Amran, Dhamar, Ibb, Dhalea, Bayda, Taiz, Lahj, Shabwah, Hadramout, and Mahra.
Scattered rainfall, occasionally with thunder, is also likely in parts of Sanaa, Hajjah, Mahweet, and Rayma, extending to the inland plateaus and desert areas of Jawf and Marib. Additional light to moderate rain may affect the western coastline, Bab al-Mandab, and parts of the southern and eastern coasts.
The center noted that strong winds could raise dust and sand in Mahra, Hadramawt, and Shabwah, while downdrafts from thunderclouds may further reduce visibility in open areas.
Residents in affected regions were warned of potential flash floods in valleys and waterways and advised to avoid crossing or remaining in such areas during and after rainfall. Vulnerable groups—including the elderly, children, and people with respiratory conditions—were urged to limit exposure to dust.
Drivers were also cautioned about poor visibility on roads, particularly in mountainous and desert areas, due to fog, low clouds, dust, and were advised to avoid crossing flood-prone routes or areas at risk of rockfalls.
