Israeli occupation closes Damascus Gate in Al-Quds, forces shops to close after distributing Iftar meals
OCCUPIED AL-QUDS, March. 10 (YPA) – Israeli occupation forces closed the Damascus Gate area, one of the main entrances to the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, in a new step reflecting the tightening of security measures around the holy city.
The Jerusalem Governorate reported that the occupation forces forced shop owners in the vicinity of Damascus Gate to close their doors, after a group of young men and women distributed Iftar meals to passersby in the area in a show of solidarity with those fasting during the month of Ramadan.
In a related context, the occupation forces erected a military checkpoint in Wadi al-Rababa neighborhood of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, causing obstruction to the movement of citizens and tightening restrictions on their movement in the area.
These measures come as part of a series of restrictions imposed by the occupation authorities in occupied Jerusalem, especially around Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City, where closures and the erection of military checkpoints are repeated in an attempt to impose a tight security reality on the Palestinian residents.
