Moscow warns of expanding Middle East conflict, calls for political solutions
MOSCOW, March 05 (YPA) – The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed grave concern on Thursday regarding escalating tensions in the Middle East, accusing the United States and “Israel” of attempting to broaden the scope of the conflict by provoking Iran into retaliatory strikes that could target objectives in Arab countries.
In an official statement, Moscow characterized American and Israeli actions as attempts to draw the region into a comprehensive confrontation that serves external interests and undermines regional stability.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that military escalation against Iran threatens global stability and the international economy, noting that civilians are the primary victims of this crisis.
Lavrov pointed to efforts aimed at inciting division between Iran and its Arab neighbors, undermining recent de-escalation and normalization trends in the region.
Moscow criticized what it described as NATO’s “drift” toward the conflict, arguing that the alliance is following “political dictates.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry concluded that a return to diplomatic channels and the cessation of military operations are the only ways to avoid a widespread regional war, affirming that Russia and its international partners are working to support political solutions and limit the potential for military escalation.
