IRGC targets US oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, March. 05 (YPA) – Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps announced a missile attack on a US oil tanker in the northern Arabian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement explained that the operation was in response to attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran, and that any military or commercial vessels belonging to these countries or their supporters could become targets if they pass through the strait.

It is noteworthy that Iranian officials warned that US, Israeli, and their supporters’ vessels would not be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that any target detected in the area would be directly targeted.

It should be noted that this move comes after Iran announced its control over traffic in the strait, amid escalating tensions, whereas Tehran had previously warned that any ships attempting to pass through without heeding its warnings could be targeted, asserting that several oil tankers had already become targets as a result of disregarding these warnings.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital strategic point in global oil transport, and recent developments indicate a possible escalation in the region as tensions continue between Iran and Western and Israeli powers.
