Egypt, ‘Israel’ disagree over number of entrants and exits through Rafah Crossing

GAZA, Jan. 31 (YPA) – The Israeli Broadcasting Authority revealed disagreements between Tel Aviv and Cairo ahead of the anticipated reopening of the Rafah crossing on Sunday, over the number of people allowed to enter and exit Gaza.

According to the report, Egypt is insisting on maintaining parity between the number of people entering the Gaza Strip and those leaving each day. “Israel”, however, is said to be pushing for a higher number of departures, proposing that around 150 people exit daily compared with only 50 allowed to enter.

Cairo reportedly sees the proposal as an attempt to promote a “slow and continuous migration” from Gaza, warning that any arrangement perceived as gradually pushing residents to leave crosses a “red line” due to the political and security sensitivities of displacement.

Official sources said the Rafah crossing is set to open for pedestrian traffic in both directions on Sunday, despite reported Israeli delays.
