Rafah crossing between Egypt, Gaza to reopen next week

GAZA, Jan. 27 (YPA) – The Rafah land crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip is set to reopen next week, according to Arab media reports on Tuesday. The crossing will undergo a preliminary opening on Wednesday to prepare for passenger movement in both directions.

A senior Palestinian source told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that the crossing will officially open at the start of next week, after logistical arrangements are finalized, including access procedures on the Palestinian side and lists of travelers.

The source denied reports that the crossing would open Monday evening, noting that some logistical issues remain unresolved. Dozens of Palestinian Authority staff are currently in El-Arish, Egypt, preparing to assume their duties.

The first group of returnees is expected to include patients who received medical treatment in Egypt and their families, estimated at about 150 households. Return trips will be coordinated through a registration system announced by the Palestinian Embassy in Cairo.

Israeli media site Walla cited Israeli sources saying the Rafah crossing could open Wednesday or Thursday in both directions.
