Sanaa criticizes UN Human Rights Council’s “double standards” policy, calls for ending it
SANAA, Jan. 24 (YPA) – The National Commission for Human Rights in Sanaa has expressed its deep regret over the outcomes of the UN Human Rights Council’s emergency session held on January 23 regarding the situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the Council’s conduct as “systematic political hypocrisy.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Commission denounced the Council’s rush to activate investigative mechanisms in Iran while maintaining a “suspicious silence” and deliberately ignoring war crimes and genocide occurring in the Gaza Strip and Yemen.
The statement emphasized that events in Iran have escalated beyond peaceful protest into “organized acts of violence and terrorism” targeting civilians and public property, urging human rights bodies to distinguish between legitimate expression and armed sabotage.
The Commission characterized the international community’s failure to address the decade-long blockade and aggression on Yemen and the ongoing massacres in Gaza as a “blatant moral failure” and one of the most serious cases of impunity in modern history.
The statement concluded by demanding an immediate end to the policy of double standards. It called for the opening of genuine accountability channels for crimes in Gaza, the reactivation of international investigations into the aggression against Yemen, and the unconditional lifting of the blockades on both regions.
