Belgium bans aircraft carrying weapons to Israel from crossing its airspace

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Jan. 24 (YPA) – The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Saturday, the issuance of a royal decree prohibiting aircraft transporting military equipment or weapons to the Israeli occupation entity from stopping or crossing Belgian airspace.

This came in a move that the Belgian Foreign Ministry said was in compliance with international law and to avoid contributing to the escalation of the conflict in Palestine.

The spokesperson for the Belgian Foreign Ministry confirmed that her country has banned the export and transfer of weapons that could be used in military operations in the Palestinian territories, stressing Brussels’ efforts to avoid contributing to the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The decision comes within a growing European trend to restrict arms exports to the Israeli occupation entity in light of the ongoing aggression against Gaza since October 2023, where several Western countries have taken similar steps, including Italy, Canada, Germany, and Slovenia, in addition to judicial decisions in Netherlands.

This trend reflects the growing legal and political pressure within Europe to reassess arms export relations with the Israeli occupation entity, based on international obligations related to humanitarian law and human rights.
