MOSCOW, Jan. 22 (YPA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin announced today that Moscow has received an official invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join the “Peace Council” for the Gaza Strip.
He emphasized that Russia is studying the proposal seriously through its diplomatic channels.
Mr. Putin said the Russian Foreign Ministry is currently reviewing the documents related to the invitation and that an official response will be issued after consultations with Russia’s strategic partners.
He added that the proposal aims primarily at reaching a comprehensive settlement in the Middle East and noted Russia’s “special and historical relationship” with the Palestinian people.
In a move signaling Moscow’s seriousness, Putin said Russia is ready to support the “Peace Council” with $1 billion from frozen Russian assets. He stressed that any settlement process must consider the Palestinians’ basic needs, particularly the reconstruction of Gaza, which has been devastated by war.
In a related development, the Russian president announced that U.S. envoys Whitkof and Kushner will arrive in Moscow tomorrow to continue discussions on the Ukraine file. He expressed hope that any breakthrough in the Gaza peace process would positively influence other international efforts aimed at long-term solutions.
Regarding the island of Greenland, Putin downplayed the significance of U.S. intentions for Russia, saying the issue is between the United States and Denmark, which will resolve the dispute.
He criticized Denmark’s historical treatment of Greenland as a “colony” and referenced its past experience in selling territory to the United States.
President Putin concluded by stressing that any international peace effort must ultimately lead to a just and lasting resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, safeguarding Palestinian rights and promoting regional stability.
