MOGADISHU, Dec. 29 (YPA) – The Somali capital, Mogadishu, witnessed on Monday widespread public protests denouncing the Israeli occupation’s announcement regarding the recognition of the “Somaliland” region as a separate entity.
Protesters described the move as a “provocative act” that undermines the country’s sovereignty and national unity.
Participants raised slogans affirming that Somalia is an indivisible nation, rejecting any “illegitimate recognition” aimed at partitioning the country or serving external agendas that destabilize the Horn of Africa.
The demonstrators called on the Federal Government of Somalia to take firm diplomatic and legal action to counter these efforts, while urging the international community to respect international law and Somali sovereignty.
The protests reflected a broad popular consensus that any Israeli influence in the region poses a direct threat to Somali national security. Furthermore, protesters warned of the potential repercussions of such moves on regional stability and international navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
