Brazilian film about Palestinian suffering wins at Tehran Film Festival

TEHRAN, Dec. 18 (YPA) – Brazilian documentary “Memoirs of Exile” won a special jury prize at the 19th Tehran International Documentary Film Festival, held from December 10-16, 2025.

The film which directed by Gustavo Castro, won in the category of documentaries addressing the genocide in Gaza.

The film revolves around the Palestinian struggle, focusing on the suffering of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation.

The project began in 2018 with the aim of documenting daily life in the Palestinian territories and exploring the possibilities of peaceful coexistence. However, after the Israeli aggression against Gaza on October 7, 2023, the film’s direction shifted to become a documentary focusing on Palestinian resistance against genocide and occupation.

The film presents firsthand images documented by the Palestinians themselves, which distinguishes it from many documentaries presented by Western media outlets.
