OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Dec. 17 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation prevented a Canadian parliamentary delegation from entering the West Bank via Jordan, a move that sparked official condemnation from the Canadian government.
The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz reported on Wednesday that “Israel prevented a private Canadian delegation, comprising six members of parliament, from entering the West Bank on Tuesday.”
It quoted the occupation’s Foreign Ministry as saying that the delegation was prevented from entry due to its ties to Islamic Relief Worldwide, a non-governmental organization that Israel classifies as a “terrorist organization.”
The occupation’s Foreign Ministry claimed that the organizers of the delegation belong to the Canadian Muslim Vote group, which receives most of its funding from Islamic Relief in Canada.
The newspaper said: “The participants included members of parliament from the center-left Liberal Party, headed by Prime Minister Mark Carney, and the social-democratic New Democratic Party.”
On Tuesday, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said in a post on the X platform: “Today, a private Canadian delegation, including members of parliament, was prevented from entering the West Bank at an Israeli border crossing.”
