Severe domestic gas crisis hits Hadramout, amid accusations against Islah Party of reducing governorate’s quotas
HADRAMOUT, Dec. 15 (YPA) – Cities in the Hadramout Governorate, including Mukalla and its valley, are gripped by a severe domestic gas crisis for the second consecutive week, leading to a partial paralysis of daily life and transportation.
Official distribution centers are witnessing a near-complete disappearance of gas cylinders, while they are being sold on the “black market” at exorbitant prices exceeding 12,000 Riyals, intensifying the suffering of thousands of families in the governorate, which is already struggling with difficult economic conditions.
The crisis is attributed to decisions to reduce quotas by the “Safer” facility, which is under the control of the Islah Party, in addition to complications in supply due to tribal blockades. Warnings are escalating about an imminent service collapse, which may coincide with an anticipated electricity outage crisis by the end of the current week.
Activists accuse officials in the Islah Party of being behind the reduction of quantities, considering it a reaction to the recent military movements of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions in the region. So far, no signs of a resolution have emerged from the responsible authorities.
