WASHINGTON, Dec. 04 (YPA) Doctors Against Genocide (DAG), a US-based organization, called on the world to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, where more than 6,000 amputees are living amidst a complete collapse of the rehabilitation and psychosocial support system.
In a statement released on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the organization explained that one in four amputees is a child, and that thousands of survivors are facing immense psychological trauma, catastrophic injuries, and forced displacement, with a near-total absence of specialized treatment services.
DAG emphasized that rehabilitation is a fundamental right, as is access to assistive devices, psychosocial support, and protection from violence, urging the international community to fulfill its responsibilities.
Doctors Against Genocide called for immediate access to rehabilitation and prosthetics, the provision of psychosocial support services, and the guarantee of protection for persons with disabilities under international law.
It also called for holding accountable those responsible for creating this widespread disability crisis in Gaza.
