UNSC decision to extend Yemen sanctions entrenches “double standards”

SANAA, Nov. 16 (YPA) – The UN Security Council issued a decision on Friday extending sanctions imposed on Yemen and prolonging the mandate of the Panel of Experts until December 15, 2026, a move that reflects the Council’s “flawed approach” in dealing with the Yemeni file.

The decision was criticized for completely ignoring the core reasons for Yemen’s intervention in the Red Sea—which is supporting Gaza against Israeli attacks—and chose to maintain absolute silence regarding the humanitarian situation and crimes in the Gaza Strip.

The resolution also ignored that the Saudi-led Coalition is obstructing peace in Yemen. It failed to mention the responsibility of the Saudi regime and the United States in the continuation of the aggression and blockade against the Yemeni people.

This decision is viewed as yet another example of double standards within the Security Council, where it adopts the narrative of one party and overlooks widely known facts.

The analysis asserts that the extension “does not support peace and legitimizes the continuation of aggression and siege,” and confirms that the Council bears responsibility for the persistence of the aggression against Yemen since 2015.
