TAIPEI, Nov. 14 (YPA) – The United States has approved $330 million-worth of parts and equipment in its first military sale to Taiwan since US President Donald Trump‘s return to the White House, the island’s foreign ministry said Friday.
“This marks the first time the new Trump administration has announced an arms sale to Taiwan,” the foreign ministry said, after the US State Department approved the package.
The Pentagon also confirmed late Thursday that it had approved the sale of aircraft spare parts to Taiwan.
“The proposed sale will improve the recipient’s capability to meet current and future threats by maintaining the operational readiness of the recipient’s fleet of F-16, C-130,” and other aircraft, the Pentagon said in a statement.
The announcement comes after President Trump declined in September to approve more than $400M in military aid to Taiwan in September.
