SHABWA, Nov. 14 (YPA) – Local authorities in the “As-Said” District of Shabwa province, which is controlled by UAE-backed factions, announced the closure of all schools starting Saturday as a precautionary measure after confirmed cases of diphtheria spreading among children
The decision comes after two children died from the infection in the Maqbalah area, sparking fear and concern among residents amid the near-collapse of local health facilities and a severe shortage of basic medical supplies and essential medicines
The school closures come as a necessary precaution to prevent rapid spread of the infection among students, amid warnings of an impending humanitarian crisis in oil-rich province.
Residents and patients are facing compounded suffering, as the health sector is unable to provide necessary care or essential medicines to prevent or treat this highly contagious and dangerous disease, putting the lives of hundreds of children and citizens at imminent risk
