Taiz University Staff protest over unpaid salaries amid worsening living conditions

TAIZ, Oct. 30 (YPA) – Academics and faculty staff at Taiz University, which is under the control of Saudi-led coalition-backed factions, took to the streets on Thursday in a mass protest demanding payment of the unpaid salaries for over four months .

The protesters expressed their outright rejection of the continued deterioration in living and economic conditions, stressing that their salaries no longer cover the minimum cost of basic needs, including food, rent, and daily transportation.

The protests come amid the pro-coalition government’s growing inability to meet its obligations to public employees, as reports emerge of revenue-sharing among powerful factions and members of the Presidential Leadership Council, deepening the financial and humanitarian crisis.

The Taiz University protest coincided with a wave of public anger in Aden and other southern provinces, where residents are facing severe deterioration in basic services such as electricity and water, along with soaring prices, holding the pro-coalition government responsible for the collapse of living conditions.
