US lawmakers call for ‘RSF’ in Sudan to be designated as terrorist organization

WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 (YPA) – Republican and Democratic members of the US Senate have called for a strong response from the President Donald Trump’s administration regarding the deadly events in the Sudanese city of El-Fasher, which the Darfur Regional Government announced have resulted in the deaths of more than 2,000 people.

Republican Senator Jim Risch of Idaho, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, demanded that the United States formally designate the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization,” noting that the forces “practice terrorism and commit unspeakable atrocities.” Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen announced her likely support for such a response.

For his part, the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), described the events in El-Fasher as unfortunate violations occurring in the context of the war, confirming that committees have been formed to investigate the incidents.
