ADEN, Oct. 17 (YPA) -Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, which is controlled by Saudi-led coalition’s factions, is facing one of its worst service collapses in years amid ongoing armed conflict between rival factions.
According to a well-informed source, daily electricity supply does not exceed two hours, while power outages extend for more than 22 consecutive hours, amid a stifling heatwave sweeping the city.
The city and its residents are paying the price for infighting among coalition factions, with each group blaming the other for the deterioration of public services and the looting of revenues and aid. Meanwhile, the coalition countries remain passive, seemingly indifferent to the suffering of the population, focused instead on exploiting local resources.
Residents affirmed that the situation has become unbearable, as temperatures rise significantly while they spend long hours without electricity, noting that children and the elderly are the most affected by this severe outage
This collapse of the electrical grid coincided with the depletion of fuel at power generation stations and the complete shutdown of several turbines, further deepening a crisis that reoccurs every summer — with no fundamental solutions in sight from the executive authority or relevant institutions.
Media reports revealed that prolonged power outages have forced many residents to turn to temporary solutions such as small generators. However, the high cost of running these devices is proving unaffordable for most, particularly amid widespread financial hardship.
Many residents complained they cannot afford these financial burdens, worsening the economic challenges faced by vulnerable households.
