Senior Shabwa official deprives patients of free MSF medicines

SHABWA, Oct. 15 (YPA) – The administration of the General Maternity and Childhood Hospital in Ataq city of Shabwa province, which is under the control of UAE-backed factions, had issued directives to halt the distribution of free medicines in the warehouses of Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

Medical sources familiar with the matter said that the hospital’s director, Saleh al-Homsi, halted free medications to be distributed to patients that MSF had left in warehouses following its departure from Shabwa last week.

The sources confirmed that al-Homsi prevented the distribution of medicines, after seizing them, and proceeded to sell them to private pharmacies.

They indicated that the sell of the medical needs constitutes a flagrant violation of medical integrity and corruption that warrants investigation.

The sources called on the UAE-backed authorities to urgently intervene and form a neutral committee to inventory the remaining quantities in the organization’s warehouses and ensure their distribution to those in need, warning against attempts at manipulation that threaten the lives of citizens.

Services provided at the hospital have significantly declined following the departure of MSF, amid a struggle over the seizure of the quantities of medications left by the organization.
