Sanaa responds to GCC, EU’s statement of regarding developments of Red Sea

SANAA, Oct. 08 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Ministry of Foreign clarified on Wednesday that it had followed the statement issued by the 29th Joint Ministerial Meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union regarding developments in Yemen and the Red Sea.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that although the GCC’s statement supported a comprehensive political process to reach a sustainable and comprehensive diplomatic solution, ensuring the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure throughout Yemen, the importance of concerted efforts by the GCC and European Union to mobilize humanitarian and development aid, and the urgent need to build economic resilience and create job opportunities for Yemenis, it contained numerous inaccuracies and misinformation.

It noted that the statement portrayed Sanaa as the party obstructing the peace process, while continuing to extend its hand for peace, offering initiatives, and engaging with the Saudi side in good faith until the roadmap was reached. However, the United States had been the one who has placed obstacles, and continued to obstruct, the peace process due to Sanaa’s principled and steadfast position in supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle and rejecting the crimes of genocide in Gaza.

The Sanaa’s statement indicated that the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which has been classified as the worst in modern history and continues to worsen, is the result of the military aggression and the blockade imposed on Yemen by land, sea, and air for more than ten years.

It noted that the aggressor states and their tools have attempted, through the blockade and strangulation of the Yemeni people, to make through economic warfare what they had failed to achieve on the battlefield.

The statement emphasized that focusing on finding solutions to the humanitarian and economic crisis, by lifting the blockade imposed on Yemen, would be the correct path to achieving peace.

It reiterated Sanaa’s commitment to the security and safety of navigation in the Red Sea, given that the security of this vital waterway and ensuring international navigation is the responsibility of the bordering countries.

“What threatens navigation in the Red Sea is the foreign military presence, the militarization of the Red Sea, and those who engage in suspicious movements and alliances that serve the Zionist occupation and its interests,” the statement added. “The entire world knows that Yemen has used the Red Sea card as a legitimate pressure tool on the Zionist enemy entity to end its siege and the crimes of genocide it has been committing against the Palestinian people.”

The ministry’s statement called for the adoption of balanced and fair positions based on facts that contribute to supporting a just and sustainable political settlement process in Yemen.
