ABU DHABI, Oct. 05 (YPA) – The recent appearance of the head of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), Aidarous al-Zubaidi, alongside the head of the coalition-affiliated Aden government, Salem bin Braik, last Saturday sparked a wave of mockery on social media.
Al-Zubaidi appeared surrounded by the treasure table, which was full of everything luxurious and shiny, as if it were a mobile antiques exhibition of models, including incense burners and braziers, similar to the treasures of Ali Baba.
This image became a source of content for activists, who saw this provocative extravagance as a reflection of what they considered an “inferiority complex” suffered by al-Zubaidi and his supporters.
They pointed out that the table’s clutter with glittering pottery and chandeliers reflected a state of obsession with showmanship, ignoring the devastating living crises plaguing the residents of the southern provinces.
Activists highlighted the stark contrast between this dazzling display and the dire reality facing the people of the Yemeni south that have been suffering from unpaid salaries for the fourth consecutive month and a complete collapse of basic services.
They considered Al-Zubaidi’s provocative appearance to reveal the extent to which the southern cause has been exploited and blatantly exploited to achieve personal interests, while southern citizens are left to face hunger and a lack of services, with nothing left but to watch images of “artifacts” as a substitute for their lost rights.
