Reported US missile attack targets Iranian oil tanker near Kharg Island

TEHRAN, Sept. 05 (YPA) – Multiple explosions were heard on Saturday in the vicinity of Iran’s strategic Kharg Island oil terminal south of Tehran, following reports that an Iranian oil tanker was targeted in a US missile strike, according to Iranian media outlets.

However, a correspondent for the Fars News Agency on the island reported no visible signs of smoke or fire thus far.

The reported incidents occurred without official statements clarifying the exact origin or circumstances of the explosions. The developments follow recent statements by US President Donald Trump claiming the island was “being blown to smithereens,” while asserting that Washington had secured and demined the Strait of Hormuz.

Regional tensions have escalated sharply since the United States resumed airstrikes against Iranian targets on August 31, triggering retaliatory Iranian strikes against US bases in several regional countries. Both sides have exchanged accusations of violating the internationally brokered ceasefire agreement signed in June.
