GAZA, Oct. 05 (YPA)- A spokesperson for the Khan Yunis Municipality in southern Gaza said on Sunday that the city is currently hosting nearly one million displaced people and residents, amid severe difficulties in delivering basic services.
Speaking in a press statement, Saeb Laqqan stated that the municipality, in coordination with UN agencies, is working on an emergency project to remove rubble from several humanitarian zones, including Al-Amal neighborhood and newly established UNRWA-run areas.
He added that basic services have been largely halted, with most municipal equipment rendered inoperable due to repeated Israeli airstrikes.
Laqqan also highlighted that many key facilities, including health centers, water infrastructure, and waste disposal sites, are located in “red zones” (areas deemed unsafe due to ongoing military operations), further complicating efforts to serve both residents and internally displaced persons.
