WFP “strongly” condemns Israeli targeting of Sanaa government

SANAA, Sept. 09 (YPA) – The World Food Programme (WFP) strongly condemned on Tuesday the Israeli targeting of the Sanaa prime minister and his companions, describing the crime as a “blatant violation of humanitarian values and principles.”

This came during a visit by the WFP Special Envoy for Yemen, Abdullah Alwardat, to Sanaa, where he met with Ambassador Ismail Al-Mutawakel, Undersecretary of the International Cooperation Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and offered his condolences for the deaths in the attack.

Al-Mutawakel explained that the Israeli attack was not merely a crime against political figures but rather “a direct attack on their legal immunity, in flagrant violation of international norms and conventions.”

He also criticized the silence of the international community and the United Nations regarding the incident and the Israeli occupation crimes in Gaza, considering that this silence “gives the aggressor a green light to continue its violations.”

In the meeting, Alwardat affirmed the WFP’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian operations in Yemen to alleviate the suffering of the people, despite the current challenges.

It is noteworthy that UNICEF had also expressed its solidarity with Sanaa and condemned the incident in a similar meeting yesterday, Monday.
