Marib tribes, sheikhs declare position on future of Saudi-held Marib city

MARIB, Sept. 15 (YPA) – Tribes and sheikhs of Marib province on Tuesday announced their position on the situation in Saudi-held Marib city and Wadi district, stressing that the continued presence of foreign forces is no longer acceptable.

During a consultative meeting held by the province’s tribal sheikhs in Sanaa, they discussed developments on the national scene, particularly in Marib.

The sheikhs affirmed that the continued Saudi occupation of the provincial capital and Wadi District was no longer tolerable, declaring the tribes’ readiness to fulfill their role alongside the armed forces and security forces to complete the liberation of the remaining districts of the province.

The Marib sheikhs, in a statement read by Sheikh Hussein Hazeb, renewed their adherence to the initiative put forward by Ansarullah movement leader Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi and announced by the official spokesman on August 9, 2021, saying it addresses many of the problems that have affected and continue to affect the province.

The statement called on sheikhs and community leaders in areas controlled by Saudi Arabia to exercise reason and restraint and refrain from involving their sons in a battle that serves what it described as the Saudi enemy and its agendas in Yemen. It stressed the importance of joint coordination to ensure security and peace for the city and its residents.

The statement said Saudi Arabia had turned Marib City and Wadi district into launching points for attacks on other Yemeni provinces, bringing in “mercenaries” from various backgrounds and terrorist organizations, while turning local residents into fuel for its aggression against their fellow citizens in the province’s districts. It also accused Saudi Arabia of using displaced people as human shields around the city.

The statement voiced support for steps taken by the Yemeni leadership to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and enforce and consolidate the blockade-for-blockade and escalation-for-escalation equation until the Saudi enemy halts its aggression, lifts the blockade and leaves Yemeni territory.

The sheikhs also congratulated the revolutionary, political and military leadership and the Yemeni people on the victory achieved in the “Allah Is Stronger in Might and More Severe in Punishment” operation, which led to the liberation of six districts along the western coast between Hodeida and Taiz.

During the consultative meeting, the Marib sheikhs also discussed a number of priority field issues and heard a briefing on the suffering experienced by the province as a result of Saudi control over its wealth, oil and revenues, and the deprivation of its people of their rights and resources.
