130 British legal experts call for expanded sanctions against “Israel”

LONDON, Sept. 15 (YPA) – At least 130 legal experts, including 18 royal advisers, have sent a letter to British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stating that recent British measures against Israeli settlements “fall far short” of fulfilling Britain’s obligations under international law.

The signatories linked their demands to the International Court of Justice’s 2024 advisory opinion on the illegality of the Israeli presence in the Palestinian territories, stressing that dealing with the issue solely as a “settlement problem” is insufficient.

The experts called for broader measures, including an arms embargo and expanded restrictions to include services and economic transactions linked to the occupation, such as insurance, accounting, and digital infrastructure. They compared the current measures to those taken by London against the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia.

The move comes after Britain announced on September 8, along with other European countries, measures targeting trade linked to the settlements.
