Hebrew media reveals fate of Eilat port workers

QUDS, Aug. 30 (YPA) – Hebrew media outlets had revealed the fate of Eilat port workers after the port was suspended due to the Yemeni blockade on Israeli ports and the failure of plans to accommodate them elsewhere.

Hebrew media reported that the plan to accommodate the port workers in Ashdod port had been stalled, despite an official announcement and hotel reservations for them.

The sources added, quoting the director of the occupied Umm al-Rashrash port, known as Eilat, Gideon Golber, that the support funds were swallowed up by debts owed to the state and the municipality.

He continued, “There is no escape from waiting for the war to end, and this is the only solution for the port and its workers.”

Meanwhile, the port’s workers said they had not received salaries or compensation for more than a year.

They added, “We should be thankful that we weren’t fired. What should we be thankful for? That we have no work or income?”

The Hebrew media reported that it was proposed that some port workers be employed in hotels, while the workers considered this an insult and expressed widespread anger.
