European Union: Declaring Gaza as “combat zone” exacerbates humanitarian disaster

SANAA, Aug. 30 (YPA) – The European Union’s foreign policy chief said, on Saturday, that the Israeli occupation’s decision to declare Gaza City a combat zone would exacerbate the humanitarian catastrophe the residents of the Strip have been experiencing for months as a result of the ongoing aggression.

In a press statement, the European Union said that “the humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating in an unprecedented manner,” stressing that “a military solution to the crisis is not possible, and the only way to stop the tragedy is to find a comprehensive political solution that guarantees the protection of civilians and opens the way for unhindered access for humanitarian aid.”

The UN chief stressed that the European Union will continue its diplomatic efforts with international partners to achieve a ceasefire and a return to a political track that puts an end to the ongoing violence and restores hope to the peoples of the region.
