Sullivan urges democrats to ban arms to “Israel” amid Gaza humanitarian crisis
WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 (YPA) – Former US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has urged Democratic lawmakers in Congress to vote in favor of an embargo on arms shipments to Israel.
Sullivan’s call, which he revealed during an appearance on The Bulwark podcast, reaffirms his support for the measure, citing the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the failure of ceasefire negotiations.
He stated that the breakdown of the March 2025 ceasefire made a vote to withhold arms from Israel “a completely legitimate and credible position.”
Sullivan’s stance comes as momentum grows in Congress to restrict arms sales to Israel. Previously, 27 Democratic senators voted in favor of a bill introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders to block the transfer of certain weapons to “Israel.”
